03A closer look at the program.
See how professional tuna buying works
From the visitor area, watch buyers inspect exposed tail cuts for color, texture, fat, and quality before the rapid bidding begins. A guide can explain the bells, hand signals, grading considerations, and the role of Toyosu in Japan’s seafood distribution system.
Understand the two viewing options
The upper-floor panoramic viewing route is available without winning the lower-deck lottery, although visibility and sound differ. The closer lower viewing area requires an advance application during a fixed window and is assigned by lottery, so access cannot be promised.
Continue through the market
After the auction, explore public market corridors and Uogashi Yokocho shops, then consider an early sushi breakfast at one of the market restaurants. Operating hours vary and many restaurants close by early afternoon, while auction activity itself can never be guaranteed.
04How the experience unfolds.
Early-morning arrival
Meet at the confirmed location before the auction. Market schedules change, so pickup or rail instructions are planned carefully around the operating calendar.
Observe the tuna auction
Watch rows of tuna, inspection rituals, hand signals, and rapid bidding from the visitor area while your guide explains how buyers judge color, texture, fat content, and provenance.
Explore Toyosu Market
Continue along the public visitor route to learn how the modern wholesale market operates and browse market-related shops when open.
Optional sushi breakfast
Finish with breakfast or an early meal at one of the market restaurants. Restaurant seating and food are arranged separately unless included in your confirmed proposal.
05Included
- Private guide when selected
- Auction and market orientation
- Public visitor-area access
- Hotel pickup or rail assistance when included in the proposal
- Reservation planning for the lower viewing area when applicable
06Good to know
- Toyosu Market is generally closed on Sundays, national holidays, and selected market holidays; an alternative market visit may be recommended when the auction is not operating.
- The upper-floor public viewing route may be used without the lower-deck lottery. Access to the closer lower viewing area requires advance application and is allocated by lottery, so it cannot be guaranteed.
- Auction timing and visibility vary with market operations. No particular tuna, sale, or level of activity can be promised.
- Breakfast, transportation, and private guiding are included only when stated in the final proposal. Very early starts may require a private vehicle because trains may not yet be running.
