01Kagoshima Excursion — Volcanoes, Gardens & Shrine Wonder

Volcanic vistas, ancient shrines, and tranquil gardens — Kagoshima’s beauty ashore

Why take this Kagoshima shore excursion?

Kagoshima is often called the “Naples of the East,” a coastal city defined by its warm climate, scenic bay, and the towering presence of Sakurajima, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. Few destinations in Japan combine such a dramatic natural setting with elegant gardens, historic shrines, and laid-back southern charm.

This shore excursion gives you the chance to experience the best of Kagoshima in one day:

Nature & Volcano Views – Marvel at the sight of Sakurajima across Kinko Bay, sometimes lightly smoking, always commanding. Whether from the shoreline or a scenic viewpoint, the volcano is an unforgettable backdrop to your day.

Cultural Elegance – Step into the past at Sengan-en Garden, a 17th-century villa with sweeping lawns, bamboo groves, and koi-filled ponds. Once home to the Shimazu clan, this estate offers not just beauty, but history intertwined with the city’s story.

Relaxation & Local Flavor – End your day with a soothing footbath powered by natural hot springs, reflecting Kagoshima’s deep connection to geothermal energy and onsen culture.

In just a few hours ashore, you’ll encounter a city where volcanoes, gardens, and shrines come together in harmony — offering both spectacle and serenity before you return to your ship.
